Depending on the enzyme source and specificity, some neuraminidases cleave both Neu5Ac and Neu5Gc, while some cleave only Neu5Ac. Those that cleave both Neu5Ac and Neu5Gc, tend to have lower efficiency towards Neu5Gc.
