Domestic Shipping Policy Statement Effective October 16, 2023
OVERVIEW
In the United States, New England Biolabs now ships its products in a ClimaCell® Cooler, which is a 100% recyclable alternative to expanded polystyrene (EPS), also known as Styrofoam®. Climacell is a paper-based insert that can maintain the required temperature conditions for your product’s delivery. More information on temperature stability data can be found in our technical note. NEB utilizes EPS coolers for a portion of our products, including those that require shipment on dry ice (e.g. competent cells), as well as larger shipments. Further, testing at NEB has shown that there is no difference in activity and stability between enzymes that are shipped with gel ice packs and enzymes shipped on dry ice.
While New England Biolabs recommends storage of its enzymes at -20°C, exposure to higher temperatures (4 to 10°C) during shipping does not pose any risk to the enzymes. In fact, during the purification process (up to 3 weeks) enzymes are maintained at these temperatures as they are purified away from proteases and other contaminants which might interfere with their stability. Furthermore, each enzyme is shipped in a specific storage buffer which has been optimized for long-term stability.
NEB enzymes are stored in buffered 50% glycerol and remain liquid at temperatures down to -35°C. If these enzymes are shipped at colder temperatures (for example, in the presence of dry ice) the products will freeze. Proteins subjected to repeated freeze/thaw cycles may lose activity.
As of October 16th, 2023, UPS became New England Biolabs’ carrier for domestic shipments.

DELIVERY
Orders received Monday through Thursday by 7:30 PM (EST) are shipped the same day for next business day delivery (within the carrier’s overnight delivery area)*. After 7:30 PM (EST), but before 8:00 PM (EST), please phone your order into Customer Support at 1-800-632-5227 (1-800-NEB-LABS), who can confirm if next business day delivery is still possible.
Orders placed by 7:30 PM (EST) on Friday will be shipped (with extra ice packs, as necessary) to NEB’s courier, who stores the products at the appropriate storage temperature, prior to Sunday shipment, for delivery the following Monday (or next business day) nationwide. This service is available for the same cost as NEB’s standard shipping service. Please note: Monday delivery service is not available for products that have a storage temperature colder than -20°C or require shipment on dry ice.

*Shipments to Hawaii are not processed on Thursdays to avoid any delay resulting in a weekend delivery. Orders placed on a Thursday for shipment to Hawaii will be shipped on Friday for delivery on Monday.
