Recombinant histones are used in studies of chromatin associated proteins both in enzymatic reactions and in binding studies. They can be the substrates for histone modifying enzymes and chromatin interacting proteins including:
Histone Methyltransferases (1)
Protein kinases (2,3)
HAT (Histone Acetyltransferases) (4)
Binding studies (5,6)
Assembling unmodified nucleosome core particles from recombinant histones allows for the study of enzymes that are inactive on individual histones or DNA as well as enabling various structural studies (7,8).
Antibodies are used to study histone modification, by immunoprecipitation, blotting or immunolocalization studies.
