Genomics/ Transcriptomics
A long-standing focus of the lab has involved the genomes of filarial parasites and their obligate endobacteria, Wolbachia. We have produced quality genomes that have served as a launchpad for studies addressing the essential nature of the worm-bacterium symbiosis, population genomics, lateral gene transfers and have highlighted candidate drug targets for further characterization. Functional genomic approaches such as RNAi are used to interrogate the function of selected genes. We also develop methods for more efficient dual RNAseq examination of the worm and Wolbachia transcriptomes at different life cycle stages and under different physiological conditions.
