The matrix supplied in each column is sufficient to bind 5 micrograms of purified DNA under testing conditions. Purifying DNA from a PCR or other enzymatic reaction introduces components such as detergents, dyes, protein, and nucleotides; all of which can compete for binding to the membrane and affect recovery of the DNA of interest.
