Disulfide bond formation is compartmentalized (2 of 4)

Disulfide bond formation is compartmentalized in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes.

Script

The formation of disulfide bonds is compartmentalized to extra-cytoplasmic compartments. In the case of prokaryotes, disulfide bond formation occurs in the periplasm… while in eukaryotes it occurs in the endoplasmic reticulum or in the inter-membrane space of mitochondria and chloroplasts.
