New England Biolabs® and Universal Wilde announce the release of the NEB® 2015-16 Catalog & Technical Reference

The first CarbonNeutral®-certified catalog produced in the USA

Ipswich, MA & Westwood, MA (April 30, 2015) – New England Biolabs (NEB) and Universal Wilde together announce the release of NEB’s 2015-16 Catalog & Technical Reference. The NEB catalog, which has served as a resource for scientists around the world for 40 years, will be the first CarbonNeutral-certified catalog printed in the USA.

NEB has purchased verified carbon offsets from The CarbonNeutral Company, a world leader in providing solutions to businesses to reduce their environmental impact. The carbon offsets will help support the Mississippi Valley Restored Ecosystem Project. The carbon offsets purchased have neutralized the unavoidable CO2 emissions generated by the printing and distribution of NEB’s latest catalog.

The Mississippi Valley Project aims to reforest one million acres of the Lower Mississippi Alluvial Valley, which has experienced sustained deforestation in recent decades and now supports less than 20% of its original forest cover. The hardwood ecosystem of the Lower Mississippi Alluvial Valley is one of the most important on the North American continent. The reforestation activities create a chain of environmental benefits, including helping protect against hurricane and flood damage, controlling soil and nutrient run-off and improving the water quality of the Mississippi River.

“NEB has always believed that the pursuit of science should not negatively impact the environment; in fact, scientists should strive to preserve and protect the environment. We take this challenge seriously and have always aligned our business practices with this belief. Seeking CarbonNeutral status for our 40th anniversary Catalog & Technical Reference is the latest example of NEB putting its core beliefs into practice” shared Jim Ellard, CEO of NEB.

Patrick Romich, CEO of Universal Wilde said “We are pleased to help NEB obtain the rights to print the Certified Carbon Neutral Publication logo on their catalog and proud to print the first catalog with the status in the USA”. Speaking of Universal Wilde’s owns efforts to reduce their impact to the environment Jim Dunlop, VP of Purchasing and Facilities said, “Our company continuously pursues opportunities to strengthen our commitment to the environment. All plants at Universal Wilde are Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified and we recycle 100% of excess paper generated in our printing and finishing facilities.”

The 40th anniversary edition of the NEB catalog features over 50 new products, up-to-date selection charts, protocols and troubleshooting tips to aid in experimental design. The catalog also introduces the inspiring stories of NEB’s Passion in Science Awards™ Winners, including two winners in the environmental stewardship category.
