Markers and Ladders (DNA/RNA/Protein) FAQ
To see FAQs about a specific Markers and Ladders (DNA/RNA/Protein), see links from the specific product's page.
Q1: Where can I find sequence and restriction maps of NEB's cloning vectors?
Q2: Does NEB carry standards for Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFG)?
Q3: What are the differences in the three versions of 2-Log, 100 bp and 1 kb DNA Ladders that NEB sells?
Q4: Does NEB carry an RNA ladder?

Q1: Where can I find sequence and restriction maps of NEB's cloning vectors?

A1: Please visit DNA Sequences and Maps for complete sequence and restriction maps of all our vectors.

NEBcutter, a computer program for restriction enzyme site mapping, accepts sequences form local files, GenBank or input sequence pasted into a designated field. NEBcutter will find the largest open reading frames within the sequence, indicate restriction enzymes that could be used to excise the gene, and map all restriction enzymes that cut only once within the sequence chosen. NEBcutter is fully aware of the information on the methylation sensitivity of restriction enzymes and alerts a user to overlapping methylation by dam, dcm, etc.

Q2: Does NEB carry standards for Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFG)?

A2: PFG standards include: Yeast chromosomes (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) (NEB# N0345S), Lambda Ladders (concatemerized Lambda molecules) (NEB# N0340S), MidRange PFG Markers I (NEB# N3551S) and II (NEB# N3552S), and a Low Range PFG Marker (NEB# N0350S). The total size range of these five PFG Markers is approximately 0.5 kb to 2,500 kb. All PFG markers are supplied as agarose plugs in convenient GelSyringe™ dispensers to simplify handling and loading of samples.

Q3: What are the differences in the three versions of 2-Log, 100 bp and 1 kb DNA Ladders that NEB sells?

A3: The ladders come in three versions: standard which is just DNA ladder that you can mix in your own sample buffer, TriDye™ which is a pre-mixed, ready-to-load molecular weight marker containing 3 dyes that serve as visual aids to monitor the progress of migration during agarose gel electrophoresis and Quick-Load™ which is a pre-mixed, ready-to-load molecular weight marker containing bromophenol blue as a tracking dye.

Q4: Does NEB carry an RNA ladder?

A4: Our RNA ladder (NEB# N0362S) has a size range of 500 to 9,000 bases and is supplied in a unique storage buffer which ensures long term stability at temperatures above -70°C.
